Why Seeds of Learning? What sets us apart from other educational programs? Our emphasis on an educational experience that taps into and enhances a child's natural desire to learn and our belief that by channeling a child's abilities and challenging his ways of thinking, we will provide your child with good fundamental skills as well as deepen his or her love of learning. In addition, we feel that children need to feel safe and comfortable in order to learn, so the Seeds of Learning facility is cheerful and cozy...much like your home. We believe that given the opportunity for an education that provides your child with the confidence and ability to make sound choices, to develop his interests and capabilities, and to become a productive member of his community, a child will become a happier, better behaved, and well-balanced person. How do we do this? Here are the indispensable "nuts and bolts" of our program:
Seeds of Learning founder Joyce Svitak cares deeply about each child's educational and emotional well-being. As a mother of two, the quality of the program is directly linked to her personal interest and beliefs and she cares for every child as she does her own. Having used the tutors to promote her children's learning, she can assure that every instructor is of the highest caliber, taking the guess work out for parents who need personal tutors. Parents can rest assured knowing their children are receiving the highest quality educational services from the very best teachers. Furthermore, the amazing academic achievement and musicianship of the school's students are the strongest evidence of the excellence of the teaching and curriculum at Seeds of Learning. Enjoy Learning Seeds of Learning strongly believes that an well educated child is still a child, but with more creativity, more imagination and fun loving. We do not believe that children who are very intelligent and accomplished have somehow been denied a childhood. We encourage our students to truly enjoy learning. Our classroom is always filled with laughter. Encourage Achievement Children are most proud and happy when they achieve beyond what's expected of them. At Seeds of Learning, we strongly encourage students to learn beyond their grade level and requirement and develop higher-level thinking skills. Since they are encouraged to learn ahead, they are able to achieve a better and clearer understanding of their current classroom activities and increase their desire and enthusiasm for more complex and higher learning. At Seeds of Learning, we believe it is important to give children tools that will be beneficial in academics and life. We teach special techniques and study skills that give students the ability to take charge of their success. After a few weeks of the Seeds of Learning routine, students adopt better study habits and take joy and pride in doing their work. Students come here to establish and maintain good learning habits and a work ethic that benefit them for life. Sharing Knowledge The classroom is not only a place for teachers' lectures, but also a place for children to share their knowledge with their peers. This environment promotes healthy competition among the students. When one child shares his or her talent, the others are inspired to also strive for excellence in that academic area. Furthermore, being exposed to higher levels of academic achievement promotes an excitement about learning more. In teaching each other, the students not only cement their own knowledge, but also become more confident and come to understand the value of helping others. Fostering Self-Confidence The educational philosophy of the seeds of learning places great significance on the importance of self-confidence in learning, and the daily classes focus on encouraging a child's self-esteem. Distinguishing between self-confidence and selfish pride, we want the children we teach to have confidence in their abilities and skills rather than becoming arrogant. In this way, children nurture their own skills, become more mature, respect others, and value the importance of education. Practicing the Arts Our students are encouraged to become personally involved in the fine arts through private piano lessons, choir, voice lessons, art classes, and music history lessons. Giving children hands-on experience with the fine arts helps them to appreciate the many beautiful aspects of daily life.
