Private Tutoring

Seeds of Learning provide private tutoring for students of all ages and levels. Individual tutoring is a fantastic way to help students with learning difficulties build confidence and improve their success and a superb method for challenging and helping gifted students advance. Currently, we provide affordable individual tutoring in phonics, reading, math, language arts, communication skills, and science, although additional subjects can be arranged.

How and Why Individual Tutoring at Seeds of Learning Works

The Best Tutors- Connecting with the person who is doing the teaching is essential to a student's learning. The best and most effective learning is when the student "clicks" with what they are learning as well as the tutor who is inspiring and facilitating the learning. At Seeds of Learning, all the private tutors have been evaluated and chosen by Joyce Svitak herself. She has seen how each tutor works with her own children before she asks the tutor to work with other students. As a parent, you can rest assured that your child will benefit enormously from one-on-one instruction by the best tutors available.
Parent and Student Surveys- We understand that success requires the coordination of parents, teachers and children. Before tutoring begins, we ask that parents and students list challenges and their short- and long-term goals to ensure that the needs of the student and the parents are met.
The Learning Assessment- Everyone has a different learning style, and students often have difficulties when teachers aren't meeting the needs of that style. At Seeds of Learning, the teacher will work with the student to assess how she or he learns best. The results will provide a map to ensure your child gets maximum results from each tutoring session.
Teaching Techniques- Our tutors use proven techniques such as creating pneumonic devices and "teaching the teacher" to increase learning and maximize success.
Motivation- We understand that academic difficulties often result in low self-esteem and a "can't do" attitude. At Seeds of Learning, our tutors work to get to know your student, help them set and achieve goals, and build their self-esteem with lots of positive reinforcement, recognition, and praise. In addition, we encourage parents to reward the student for exceptional effort and performance periodically. In time, you will see your child's self-esteem, confidence, and independence grow!
Progress Reports- Our tutors prepare daily and monthly progress reports so you can see how your child is doing. After each session, you will receive a synopsis of what your child worked on, and a list of activities the student can complete between sessions to further increase their success. Every month, you will receive a progress report that details what the child has worked on, their successes, their challenges, and what the tutor has planned to work on those challenges in future sessions.
