Violin
and Viola Lessons The violin and viola instructor at Seeds of Learning is passionate about teaching her students the joy of fine violin playing that will reward them for the rest of their lives. Not only will they receive the benefits of a solid background in music theory, ear training, and proper violin technique, but they will gain self confidence from their own success even from the earliest stages of playing the violin. They will be taught from the Suzuki Method, which features the following natural and successful ways for a child to learn the violin: Parent Involvement – The parent attends the child's lessons and practices with the child daily at home. Through the help of the teacher, the parent learns to be the child's "home teacher". Early Beginning – Formal training starts at young ages and learns the violin in similar ways a child acquires a language: when learning is at its height. It is, however, never too late to begin! Listening – Just as children learn to speak surrounded by language, regular exposure to music will facilitate aural development and learning music. Listening to Suzuki recordings as well as other music is the foundation of learning. Encouragement – Sincere praise and encouragement make learning fun and enjoyable and create a supportive environment in which the child wants to learn. Learning with other children – Seeing other children play in group class spurs children to improve and aspire to higher playing levels. They also appreciate the efforts of students at earlier levels. Music promotes healthy social interactions. Graded Repertoire – The Suzuki repertoire for each instrument is a carefully chosen sequence of pieces which are building blocks for musical and technical development. This standard repertoire is motivating since young students want to play music they hear more advanced students play. The Seeds of Learning instructor will also incorporate music outside of the Suzuki repertoire to cater to the needs and interests of each individual student. Delayed reading – Focusing on hearing and playing in the early stages of learning instead of reading notation enables the student to play with good posture and tone, accurate intonation, and musical phrasing from the beginning. Reading skills are gradually introduced at appropriate age and skill levels. The teacher at Seeds of Learning believes that children are quite capable to read music earlier than most Suzuki-trained students normally start. She will teach music notation at a stage appropriate for each student. Whole Person Approach – The well-being of the whole person is the foremost concern of our violin instructor. Students ages 4 and up are accepted into the violin studio at Seeds of Learning. Adult beginners are also welcome! Group violin classes will proceed once there is a sufficient amount of students at Seeds of Learning. If you need a violin, viola, or other instrument, please visit our Important Resources page!
